Wieck Helps Southwest Airlines Say Aloha to Service in Hawaii

By Julie Unger

What do you do when the world’s most LUV’d airline calls and asks you to help them announce long-anticipated service to Hawaii? You say yes. And that’s exactly what team Wieck did!

Working under a tight deadline, our awesome multimedia team set out to create an experience that Southwest Airlines would never forget. We utilized our services of event production and live streaming to make all those in attendance at the fall Los Angeles employee rally feel as if they were standing on the shores of Waikiki beach, where Southwest president Tom Nealon and the governor of Hawaii, David Ige were ready to deliver the news.

10,000 Southwest employees and their families rallied in the heart of Universal Studios to watch presenters CEO Gary Kelly, COO Mike Van de Ven and Managing Director of Culture, Cheryl Hughey. Before the event started, the team at Southwest sent out the live stream link to all Southwest employees letting them know that the special event was about to begin.

With leis around our necks, Team Wieck held down the fort from the video village we created with the help of over 35 media experts. This included the setup of a 20ft LED wall, an audio and speaker system, and a satellite truck where we controlled the boards and cameras. From here, we were able to make sure everything ran smoothly for all the excited viewers.

“Hearing the reactions of the people and everyone cheering was exciting for us and obviously the employees,” said Wieck Senior Vice President Marc Newman about the moment of the announcement.

Southwest will begin selling tickets to Hawaii starting in 2018, with service coming from California. To read more about this exciting news, check out their website here.

We would like to say a big thank you to our friends at Southwest Airlines for letting us be a part of this exciting announcement!
